Lowell firefighters rescued five occupants, including a child over an aerial ladder, during an intense blaze Thursday.
The fire quickly engulfed the three-story home and firefighters rescued one person from the first floor and four more from a third floor porch.
“The ladies and gentlemen of the Lowell Fire Department did a tremendous job. They were asked to act very, very quickly and I’m very proud of them, they did a good job,” Lowell Fire Chief Phillip Charron told CBS Boston. “When you make a rescue the seconds count and they definitely performed today.”
Officials said a 4-year-old girl, who was being watched by a babysitter, exited using the interior stairwell and perished in fire.
